The end of Summer could mean the beginning of stormwater contamination.
 
Without realizing it, you could be polluting Garland ponds, creeks and streams by draining your swimming pool water into a storm sewer.
 
Anything put into City storm drains eventually ends up in a local waterway.
 
When swimming pool water runs down the storm drain or onto the ground, Garland's aquatic ecosystems could suffer from the chlorine concentration and other chemicals found in treated swimming pool water.
 
Garland City ordinances require all owners of pools, hot tubs or spas to drain them into a sanitary sewer, not into grass, alleys or storm drains.
 
Even items such as landscape debris and animal wastes create nutrients that foster water pollution.
 
Ponds and creeks were never meant to be chlorinated.  Let's keep nature as natural as possible.
